Stetson at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — The Arkansas Razorbacks will look to continue their strong start and secure a series win when they host the Stetson Hatters in the second game of a three-game set Saturday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 73 degrees.
Arkansas (11-3) opened the series with a commanding 7-1 victory Friday afternoon behind a stellar start from right-hander Gabe Gaeckle, who tossed six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. Camden Kozeal added two RBIs in the win.
The Razorbacks will turn to Gaeckle again Saturday, hoping for a repeat performance. In his last three starts, the sophomore has logged a 1.69 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 16 innings, including Friday’s dominant outing against Stetson.
The Hatters (5-9), who have lost four of their last five, will counter with left-hander James Hays. Hays took the loss Friday, giving up three earned runs over four innings in relief. In his last start on Feb. 28, he struck out seven Fordham batters in 4 1/3 innings.
Stetson’s offense, held to just one run on six hits Friday, will need to find a spark against a deep Arkansas pitching staff. The Hatters are 1-5 on the road this season.
Arkansas has been formidable at home, going 8-2 at Baum Stadium. Their pitching staff has posted a 2.08 ERA over the last seven games.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Arkansas 7, Stetson 5.
The series concludes Sunday. Stetson then travels to face Prairie View on March 11, while Arkansas prepares to host Mississippi State to open Southeastern Conference play next Friday.
