William & Mary at Campbell
Preview: William & Mary at Campbell
LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — The William & Mary Tribe look to even their Colonial Athletic Association series against the Campbell Fightin’ Camels on Saturday at Jim Perry Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 83 degrees.
Campbell (5-7) took the series opener Friday afternoon, 9-2, capitalizing on a five-run seventh inning to pull away. Both teams enter the contest with similar early-season records, as William & Mary sits at 5-6.
A key matchup will feature two arms looking to provide stability for their clubs. William & Mary is expected to rely on Luke Calveric, who has shown swing-and-miss ability with nine strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings in his last three appearances. His most recent outing was a strong three-inning, one-run relief stint at VCU on Tuesday.
Campbell will counter with Cooper Clark. The right-hander has been effective in two starts this season, including five scoreless innings with three hits allowed in a win at Troy on Feb. 21. In his last start, he took a hard-luck loss against Wright State, allowing two earned runs over five innings while striking out six.
The Tribe will aim to jump-start an offense that has been held to two runs in each of its last two games. The Fightin’ Camels seek to build momentum after Friday’s win, which snapped a three-game skid.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, William & Mary is projected to win a 5-3 decision.
The three-game series concludes Sunday afternoon in Lillington.
