West Georgia Holds Off Wichita State Rally in Doubleheader Opener

WICHITA, Kan. (Interstat) — Lex Kenny pitched six no-hit innings and the West Georgia Wolves survived a late rally to edge the Wichita State Shockers 5-4 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Eck Stadium.

Kenny allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts before the bullpen sealed the win. West Georgia scored all five runs in the second inning, keyed by Anthony Cole’s two-run double and Mason Cooper’s two-run single.

Jaden Gustafson homered for Wichita State, which scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth innings but left the potential tying run on base. Brady Hamilton struck out seven over six scoreless innings for the Shockers.

West Georgia improved to 2-12. Wichita State fell to 8-4.
