W Georgia at Wichita State
Preview: W Georgia Wolves at Wichita State Shockers
WICHITA, Kan. (Interstat) — The Wichita State Shockers will look to continue their dominant start and extend the W Georgia Wolves’ early-season struggles when the teams meet in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Eck Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, though forecasts call for 70-degree temperatures and rain at game time.
The Shockers (8-3) enter riding high after a 22-4 rout of the Wolves (1-12) in Friday’s series opener. Wichita State’s offense exploded for 18 hits in the victory, showcasing the depth that has keyed its strong start.
A player to watch for the Shockers is designated hitter Owen Washburn, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs in Friday’s win. Over his last seven games, Washburn is 12 for 27 (.444) with two homers and 12 RBIs.
W Georgia, mired in an 11-game losing streak, will seek a spark from third baseman Patrick McCullough. He homered in Friday’s loss and has two home runs in his last five games, providing a rare bright spot for an offense that has been held to two runs or fewer in six of its 12 losses this season.
The Wolves’ challenging non-conference schedule has contributed to their record, with recent road series at South Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas-Little Rock. Their lone win came against Central Michigan on Feb. 14.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-0 victory for Wichita State in Saturday’s opener.
The series is a final tune-up for Wichita State before a pivotal Tuesday road game at in-state rival Kansas State. W Georgia continues a lengthy road swing, with its next home game not scheduled until March 13.
Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the series concludes Sunday.
