Oregon at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Interstat) — A surging Oregon squad looks to secure a series win when it faces Purdue in the second game of a weekend set Saturday at Alexander Field.
The Ducks (11-2) edged the Boilermakers 8-7 in a 10-inning thriller Friday night. Oregon’s bullpen delivered 5 1/3 innings of hitless relief, anchored by starter Will Sanford’s five-inning, eight-strikeout performance.
Sanford, a player to watch for the Ducks, has been dominant. Over his last three outings, he has allowed just six hits and two earned runs across 14 2/3 innings while striking out 21. He will be tasked with slowing a Purdue lineup that scored seven runs Friday.
The Boilermakers (8-4) will lean on third baseman Sam Flores, who homered and drove in two runs in the series opener. Flores is 6 for 19 with two home runs and five RBIs over his last five games.
Purdue seeks to even the series and rebound from a tough loss where it squandered a late lead. The Boilermakers’ bullpen will aim for a stronger finish after yielding the tying and winning runs Friday.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, another close contest is expected, projecting a final score of Oregon 8, Purdue 7.
First pitch is scheduled for Saturday afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 78 degrees. The nonconference matchup is organized by the Big Ten.
Following Saturday’s game, the series concludes Sunday at Alexander Field.
