North Carolina A&T at Elon

ELON, N.C. (Interstat) — A quick turnaround awaits the Elon Phoenix and North Carolina A&T Aggies after a pitchers’ duel opened their series Friday night.

The in-state foes will meet again Saturday afternoon at Walter C. Latham Park, with first pitch scheduled for 4:06 p.m. under cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 81 degrees.

Elon (6-7) looks to even the series after a 2-1 loss in the opener. The Phoenix wasted a strong start from Brian Strange, who allowed just one hit and two earned runs over seven innings while striking out five. Strange has been a standout, fanning 11 in a win over Fairfield on Feb. 27.

North Carolina A&T (3-10) snapped a four-game skid with Friday’s win, powered by Gavin Sentell’s five hitless innings of relief. Sentell, who earned the win, has not allowed a hit in his last eight innings pitched across two appearances.

The Colonial Athletic Association matchup features teams seeking consistency. The Aggies’ victory Friday was just their third this season. The Phoenix have alternated wins and losses over their last six games.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 victory for Elon in Saturday’s contest.

Following the game, the series concludes Sunday afternoon. Elon then travels to face North Carolina State on Tuesday. North Carolina A&T hosts UNC Greensboro on Wednesday.
