UCLA at Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — The red-hot UCLA Bruins look to continue their dominant start when they face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the second game of a weekend series Saturday at Bill Davis Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, though forecasts call for rain and a temperature near 74 degrees.
UCLA (11-2) arrives with significant momentum after dismantling Ohio State 11-1 in Friday’s series opener. The Bruins have won 10 of their last 11 games, including a 12-5 victory at then-Tennessee last week.
A major reason for their success has been junior right-hander Logan Reddemann, who is expected to start on the mound. Reddemann was spectacular Friday, throwing six hitless innings with 10 strikeouts against the Buckeyes. In his last three starts, he has allowed just one earned run over 16 1/3 innings while striking out 27.
The Bruins’ offense provided ample support in the opener, with Mulivai Levu going 4 for 6 with a home run and three RBIs and Roch Cholowsky adding a two-run homer.
Ohio State (5-7) seeks to halt a four-game skid and level the series. The Buckeyes have struggled to find consistency, particularly from their bullpen, which has been taxed heavily during the losing streak.
Right-hander Sahil Patel is slated to start for Ohio State. Patel took the loss Friday, allowing two earned runs over four innings. He has faced challenges recently, surrendering four earned runs in just 4 1/3 innings over his last two appearances.
Dane Harvey provided one of the few bright spots for Ohio State on Friday with a solo home run.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, UCLA is projected to win 8-4.
The nonconference series, organized under the Big Ten banner, concludes Sunday.
