Branch Powers Georgia Past Queens in Doubleheader Opener
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — Kolby Branch broke out of a slump with two home runs and five RBIs, powering Georgia to a 13-5 win over Queens (N.C.) in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Foley Field.
The Bulldogs, now 13-3, erased an early 5-0 deficit. Branch’s grand slam in the third inning gave Georgia a 6-5 lead it never relinquished. He added a solo shot in the seventh. Ryan Wynn had a pinch-hit, two-run homer and Henry Allen also homered for Georgia.
The Royals (4-10) scored all five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Hunter Huneycutt’s two RBIs, but managed just nine hits. Georgia’s bullpen, led by Justin Byrd’s three scoreless innings, shut the door after the early rally.
