Seton Hall at Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The Louisville Cardinals will look to build on a dominant series-opening win when they host the Seton Hall Pirates in the second game of their weekend set Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 77 degrees.
Louisville (8-5) unleashed a 16-hit attack in a 16-1 rout of Seton Hall on Friday night. First baseman Tague Davis led the charge, going 2 for 3 with a home run and a career-high six RBIs. Davis is batting .357 with four homers and 19 RBIs over his last nine games.
The Cardinals’ offense, which has scored nine or more runs in six games this season, will face a Seton Hall pitching staff seeking redemption. The Pirates (4-5) have lost three of their last four.
A player to watch for Seton Hall is reliever Matt Pontari, who provided a bright spot Friday with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Over his last four appearances, Pontari has a 6.75 ERA across five innings, allowing three earned runs.
Seton Hall’s season has been inconsistent, with the Pirates alternating wins and losses over their past eight games following an 0-2 start. They have yet to win consecutive contests.
Louisville has been strong at home, improving to 7-2 at Jim Patterson Stadium with Friday’s victory. The Cardinals have won four of their last six overall.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a close contest Saturday, forecasting a 7-6 Louisville victory.
The three-game series concludes Sunday afternoon. Seton Hall then travels to face NJIT on Wednesday. Louisville hosts Marshall for a two-game midweek series starting Tuesday before opening Atlantic Coast Conference play at home against Notre Dame next weekend.
