Johnson’s 12th-Inning Homer Lifts Northwestern State Past Incarnate Word in Southland Clash
SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — Bryce Johnson hit a three-run homer in the top of the 12th inning Saturday, propelling Northwestern State to a 7-6 victory over Incarnate Word in a Southland Conference game at Roadrunner Field.
Johnson’s blast to deep left field broke a 4-4 tie and withstood a two-run answering homer from Incarnate Word’s Tony DeJesus in the bottom half. The Demons (9-7) collected 14 hits, with Johnson driving in three runs. Brooks Leonard added three hits and an RBI.
The Cardinals (7-8) used two sacrifice hits to build an early 4-2 lead, but Northwestern State pitchers Wesley Marien and Trent Hillen combined for 10 innings, allowing just four hits. Incarnate Word starter EJ Garcia took a no-decision after allowing three runs over eight innings.
