Correa, Bulls Power Past Southern in Doubleheader Opener

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — Juan Correa homered and drove in three runs Saturday as South Florida cruised past Southern 9-2 in the first game of a doubleheader at USF Baseball Stadium.

The Bulls (13-3) broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning on Correa’s solo shot and pulled away with a five-run fourth, keyed by his two-run single. South Florida’s bullpen dominated, as Kaden Smith, Dominic Pontbriant and Landen Yorek combined for 9 innings of three-hit relief after starter Genesis Prosper opened with 2 2/3 hitless frames for Southern (3-11).

The Jaguars scored both runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Jaylon Lucky and an RBI single from Ryan Hunter. South Florida finished with 11 hits to Southern’s five and executed two sacrifice flies.
