Preview: Southern Jaguars at South Florida Bulls

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The South Florida Bulls, riding a strong start to the season, will host the struggling Southern Jaguars in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at USF Baseball Stadium.

The Bulls (10-3) have won eight of their last ten games and are coming off a 12-4 midweek victory over Stetson. South Florida’s offense has been potent, scoring nine or more runs in five games this season.

The Jaguars (3-8) have lost four of their last five, including a 14-5 defeat to McNeese State on Tuesday and a 1-0 loss to these same Bulls on Friday. Southern’s pitching staff has struggled, allowing 10 or more runs in five of its eight losses.

A player to watch for Southern is outfielder Kameron Byrd, who homered and drove in two runs in the loss to McNeese State. Over his last seven games, Byrd is 7-for-22 (.318) with a home run and seven RBIs.

South Florida will counter with shortstop Jevin Relaford, who is hitting .333 (10-for-30) over his last ten games with eight RBIs. He drove in two runs in the win over Stetson.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 victory for South Florida.

First pitch is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, though the forecast calls for rain and a temperature of 78 degrees.

The second game of the doubleheader will follow approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
