Xavier at Oregon State
CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon State Beavers, riding momentum from a rivalry win, are heavily favored to open a four-game series against the visiting Xavier Musketeers on Friday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with temperatures near 48 degrees.
Oregon State (7-4) enters following a 10-6 road victory over Oregon on Tuesday. The Beavers’ offense was keyed by left fielder Josh Proctor, who went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Proctor is batting .462 (6 for 13) with a home run and four RBIs over his last four games.
Xavier (5-7) arrives after a 13-4 win at Ohio State on Wednesday, snapping a three-game skid. Right fielder Clay Burdette powered the Musketeers, blasting a home run and driving in four runs. Burdette is 8 for 16 (.500) with five RBIs in his last five contests.
The matchup appears lopsided on paper. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 Oregon State victory, and its ELO rating system gives the Beavers a 78% probability to win.
The Beavers have been strong at home, going 5-2 at Goss Stadium this season. Xavier is 3-7 on the road, though it did take two of three at Cal State Fullerton last weekend.
Following Friday’s contest, the teams will play three more in Corvallis through Monday. Xavier then travels to Eugene for two games against Oregon, while Oregon State begins a West Coast road trip at San Diego next Friday.
