Boston College at Miami (FL)

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Interstat) — The Atlantic Coast Conference baseball season opens Friday with a stark contrast in records as the surging Miami (FL) Hurricanes host the Boston College Eagles at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under a forecast of 76-degree temperatures and rain. The Hurricanes (11-2) enter conference play with one of the nation’s top early-season marks, while the Eagles (7-5) look to build momentum from a midweek road victory.

Miami, coming off a 5-2 win over Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday, has been dominant outside of a two-game sweep by Florida last weekend. The Hurricanes’ offense exploded for 30 runs in a win over Lafayette on Feb. 22. A key player to watch is reliever Tate DeRias, who has not allowed an earned run in his last 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight.

Boston College arrives after a 9-4 win at Florida International on Wednesday, a game highlighted by exceptional pitching. Closer Jacob Burnham was particularly sharp, throwing four hitless innings with seven strikeouts. Over his last three appearances spanning 10 1/3 innings, Burnham has allowed just two earned runs while fanning 13, making him a critical late-game weapon for the Eagles.

The series marks the start of ACC play for both teams. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Miami is projected to win the opener 7-4.

The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday to complete the three-game series. Boston College travels to Connecticut next Tuesday, while Miami faces a road test at UCF next Wednesday.
