Rutgers Rallies Early, Holds Off Bryant Behind Strong Bullpen Work
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Interstat) — The Rutgers Scarlet Knights scored five early runs and the bullpen dominated late to defeat the Bryant Bulldogs 6-3 on Friday evening at Bainton Field.
Rutgers erased a three-run deficit in the first inning. After Chase Krewson scored on a Josh Meglio double, Tristan Salinas followed with a two-run homer to deep right field, his second of the season, to tie the game. The Scarlet Knights added two more in the second on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Trevor Bonds.
Bryant answered with three runs in the third on an RBI triple from Casey Wensley and a run-scoring double by Charlie Saul, but would get no closer. Rutgers added an insurance run in the fourth on a Krewson groundout.
Vincent Borghese earned the win for Rutgers with 4 2/3 scoreless relief innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. Bryant’s Sean Zaslaw took the loss. Rutgers improved to 7-5, while Bryant fell to 4-6. The teams continue their series Saturday.
