Arizona vs. Oregon

LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The No. 1-ranked Oregon Ducks used a dominant pitching performance and a pair of timely home runs to overpower the Arizona Wildcats 7-2 on Friday night at T-Mobile Arena, extending their perfect start to the season.

Oregon improved to 9-0, while Arizona fell to 1-8.

The game’s decisive sequence came in the bottom of the fifth inning, turning a tight contest into a comfortable lead. Leading 4-2, the Ducks loaded the bases with one out against Arizona reliever Owen Kramkowski. After a mound visit, Kramkowski was replaced by Maclain Roberts. Oregon right fielder Angel Laya greeted Roberts by launching the first pitch he saw over the right-field wall for a three-run homer, stretching the lead to 7-2. The blast, with an exit velocity of 93.2 mph and traveling 334 feet, effectively sealed the victory.

The Ducks’ offense was powered by the long ball. Second baseman Ryan Cooney started the scoring for Oregon in the second inning with a two-run homer to left field, a 390-foot shot that gave the Ducks a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish. Left fielder Jax Gimenez had opened Oregon’s account with a solo homer in the first inning. Laya finished 1 for 4 with three RBIs, while Cooney went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Third baseman Drew Smith added two hits, including a triple.

While the offense provided the fireworks, Oregon’s pitching staff was the story, combining for 19 strikeouts while allowing just five hits. Starter Will Sanford set the tone, striking out seven over 3 2/3 innings. He was relieved by Tanner Bradley with two outs in the fourth after Arizona scored two unearned runs on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder.

Bradley, named the top star for Oregon, was exceptional in extinguishing the Wildcats’ threat and then stifling them for the remainder of his outing. He entered with two runners on in the fourth and recorded a strikeout to end the inning. Bradley then proceeded to pitch 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing only three hits while striking out nine. He consistently worked out of minimal trouble, preserving the lead after Laya’s homer.

Ryan Featherston closed the game for Oregon, striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Arizona’s scoring was limited and opportunistic. The Wildcats plated two unearned runs in the fourth without a hit, capitalizing on an error by the Oregon left fielder. They managed just five hits total, with Kaden Novitske collecting three of them. Wildcats starter Owen Kramkowski took the loss, charged with six earned runs over 4 1/3 innings. The Arizona bullpen, notably Roberts and Corey Kling, provided scoreless relief, with Roberts striking out four over 2 2/3 hitless innings.

The game featured multiple replay challenges. Arizona successfully overturned a safe call at first base in the second inning, while Oregon was unsuccessful in challenging a safe call at second in the first and an out call at first in the fourth.

The victory continues Oregon’s commanding start to the 2026 campaign, having outscored opponents 90-12 over their first nine games. Arizona, meanwhile, continues to search for consistency, having lost eight of nine to begin the year.

Both teams continue play in the Las Vegas tournament on Saturday. Oregon will face UC Irvine, while Arizona is set to take on Vanderbilt.
