Maine at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. (Interstat) — The Winthrop Eagles, off to a strong start this season, will look to continue their momentum when they host the struggling Maine Black Bears in a three-game series opener Friday at Winthrop Ballpark.

First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, though forecasts call for rainy conditions and a temperature near 57 degrees.

Winthrop (6-2) enters riding a four-game winning streak, including an 11-7 victory over Marshall on Monday. The Eagles’ offense has been potent, scoring 10 or more runs in four of their wins. Relief pitcher Walker Brodt has been a key contributor, tossing two scoreless innings in that win over Marshall.

Maine (2-7) seeks to halt a three-game skid after a 9-4 loss at Charlotte on Wednesday. The Black Bears have struggled on the road, with all games this season played away from Orono. A bright spot has been reliever Pierce Friedman, who pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings against Charlotte.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 Winthrop victory, with its ELO rating system giving the Eagles a 67.6% probability to win.

The series continues Saturday and Sunday at Winthrop Ballpark.
