DAVIS, Calif. (Interstat) — The Nevada Wolf Pack and UC Davis Aggies open a three-game weekend series Friday evening at Dobbins Baseball Complex, with both teams looking to build momentum early in the season.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures around 56 degrees.
Nevada (3-3) arrives after taking two of three from Utah Valley last weekend, capped by a 5-3, 10-inning victory on Sunday. The Wolf Pack will look to starting pitcher Jordan Giacomini to set the tone. The right-hander was dominant in his last outing on Feb. 22, allowing one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings against Utah Valley.
UC Davis (3-5) seeks to rebound from a 7-2 midweek loss to California. The Aggies’ offense showed life in a series win at Santa Clara last weekend, and outfielder Tyler Howard has been a key catalyst. Howard went 4 for 12 with a home run and four RBIs in the three-game set against the Broncos, including a 2-for-3, four-RBI performance in a 13-8 win on Feb. 22.
The Aggies’ season has been marked by inconsistency, with a road series win at Santa Clara followed by the loss to Cal. Nevada, after being swept in a season-opening series at Mississippi, found its footing at home against Utah Valley.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is UC Davis 5, Nevada 4.
This series continues Saturday and Sunday afternoons in Davis before both teams embark on busy stretches. Nevada faces a quick turnaround with a game at Stanford on Monday, while UC Davis heads to Saint Mary’s on Tuesday.
