Dallas Baptist Looks to Bounce Back Against Struggling Texas-Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Dallas Baptist Patriots look to get back on track when they visit the struggling Texas-Arlington Mavericks in nonconference baseball action Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures around 54 degrees.

Dallas Baptist (4-3) enters after dropping three straight at Texas-San Antonio over the weekend, including a 6-3 loss Sunday. The Patriots’ bullpen provided a bright spot in that defeat, with Jerrod Jenkins, Avery Duncan and Aiden VanDeHatert combining for 6 scoreless innings of relief. Jenkins, a player to watch, struck out three over three perfect frames despite being charged with two unearned runs.

Texas-Arlington (2-5) has also lost three consecutive games, most recently a 5-3 setback to Lamar on Sunday. The Mavericks’ bullpen was effective in the loss, with Jacob Havern tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings of one-hit relief. Outfielder Noah Fields provided the offensive highlight with a solo home run.

The Patriots’ offense showed potency in a midweek win over Abilene Christian last week and in a season-opening series sweep of Binghamton, but was held to three runs or fewer in all three losses at UTSA.

The Mavericks seek consistency after a series loss at Northwestern State and a home series defeat to Lamar, though they notched a notable midweek win over then-Texas Christian on Feb. 17.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Dallas Baptist is projected to win 6-3.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Dallas Baptist begins a four-game homestand against Oral Roberts and Air Force on Thursday. Texas-Arlington faces a daunting road trip, traveling to face Arkansas for a three-game series starting Friday.
