Seton Hall at Georgetown

BETHESDA, Md. (Interstat) — Georgetown hosts Seton Hall in a Big East series continuation Friday at 58-degree Shirley Povich Field, with the Hoyas (26-27) seeking to build on a 0-0 series opener Thursday, while the Pirates (15-28) look to snap a four-game losing streak.

The Hoyas enter with a 26-27 overall mark after falling 21-6 at Maryland on Tuesday. Georgetown bounced back from a 9-5 loss at Creighton on Saturday to take the series finale 5-2 on Sunday. The Pirates, meanwhile, were swept at home by Connecticut last weekend, including a 7-3 loss Sunday.

Seton Hall reliever John Higgins has been a bright spot in recent outings. The right-hander has allowed only two hits over his last three appearances, striking out one in two scoreless innings against Connecticut on Sunday and retiring all three batters he faced in Friday’s 4-3 loss. Higgins has surrendered earned runs in two of his last seven appearances, but has held opponents scoreless in five of those outings.

Georgetown reliever Ethan Rucker has been effective of late. The right-hander worked a scoreless inning at Creighton on Sunday and tossed three shutout innings against Delaware State on May 5, striking out two. Rucker has allowed runs in two of his last seven appearances, but has not given up an earned run in three of his past four outings.

The Pirates took the series opener Thursday in a scoreless game. Seton Hall’s most recent victory came May 5, a 4-2 win over Saint Peter’s. Georgetown’s last win was Sunday’s 5-2 decision at Creighton.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 Georgetown victory.

Both teams conclude the series Saturday in Bethesda.
