Ohio State at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — The Ohio State Buckeyes visit the Michigan Wolverines on Thursday at Ray Fisher Stadium to open a three-game Big Ten series. First pitch is scheduled for a cold, cloudy afternoon with temperatures expected at 46 degrees.

Ohio State (26-23) enters the matchup after a 8-4 loss to Wright State on Tuesday. Michigan (32-19) dropped its most recent contest 5-3 at Kent State on Tuesday.

Right-hander Luke Carrell is a pitcher to watch for the Buckeyes. In his last outing Tuesday against the Raiders, Carrell tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Over his past six appearances, he has allowed four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, striking out six.

For Michigan, right-hander David Lally will draw attention. Lally worked four innings against Kent State on Tuesday, allowing three earned runs while striking out six. In his previous start May 3 at Maryland, he surrendered three earned runs over five innings with six strikeouts. Lally’s best recent performance came April 19 against Northwestern, when he threw a complete-game one-hitter with six strikeouts in a 2-1 victory.

The Wolverines hold a 32-19 overall record, while the Buckeyes sit at 26-23. Michigan took two of three at Minnesota last weekend and has won six of its last nine. Ohio State split a weekend series with Michigan State, winning the opener and finale, before the midweek loss.

The series continues Friday and Saturday at Ray Fisher Stadium. Ohio State’s next scheduled game after Thursday is Friday at Michigan, and the Wolverines also face the Buckeyes again Friday and Saturday.

A game simulator run by Interstat projects a 7-6 victory for Michigan.
