California Baptist at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. (Interstat) — California Baptist looks to build on a one-run victory Wednesday as the Lancers (40-13) face UC Davis (26-25) on Thursday evening at Dobbins Baseball Complex.

The Lancers won the series opener 4-3 on Wednesday, pushing their nation-leading win total to 40. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., with clear skies and a temperature of 65 degrees.

Connor Ross, a third baseman, has been the driving force for California Baptist. Over his last 10 games, Ross is batting .379 with six home runs and 11 RBIs. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in Monday’s 8-3 win at UC Santa Barbara. Ross also homered in three of the four games against Sacramento State last week, including a 2-for-4 performance with a homer and an RBI in Friday’s 5-4 victory.

UC Davis counters with two-way standout Braydon Wooldridge. On Sunday against Hawaii, Wooldridge tossed five innings of five-hit ball, allowing one earned run in a 3-1 win. He also struck out three over four scoreless innings against Sacramento State on May 5. At the plate, Wooldridge is 4-for-13 (.308) with two home runs and four RBIs over his last five starts.

The Aggies have won four of their last six games, including a series sweep of Hawaii over the weekend. UC Davis took down Cal State Fullerton in three straight road games from May 1-3. The Aggies’ pitching staff has limited opponents to three or fewer runs in six of their last eight outings.

California Baptist owns a 3-2 advantage in the season series, including Wednesday’s win. The Lancers have won nine of their last 10 games overall, with the only blemish coming Sunday in a 19-2 loss to Sacramento State.

Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-7 final in favor of California Baptist, while the ELO system gives the Lancers a 61% probability to win.

The two teams close the series Friday afternoon at Dobbins Baseball Complex.
