Portland at Oregon State
CORVALLIS, Oregon (Interstat) — Oregon State Beavers defeated the Portland Pilots 8-3 on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field in a game that turned decisively in the bottom of the third inning.
Oregon State improved to 41-11 overall, while Portland dropped to 25-24. The Beavers outhit the Pilots 11-3, with Portland’s only extra-base hits coming on a double by Trey Swygart and a two-run home run by Cole KatayamaStall in the eighth inning.
The game was scoreless through the first inning and a half. Portland’s offense managed just one hit in the first three frames, a single by Swygart. Oregon State broke through in the bottom of the second, scoring one run on a walk by Austin Inge that forced in a run after the Beavers loaded the bases on a single, a bunt single and a walk. The Pilots held a 1-0 lead briefly, but that advantage evaporated when the Beavers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third.
Oregon State sent eight batters to the plate in the third inning. After a single by Pablo Vazquez and a hit by pitch to Eric Porter, the Beavers executed a sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error by Portland pitcher Connor Gaston, loading the bases. Jack Proctor then crushed a triple down the right-field line, clearing the bases and giving Oregon State a 4-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by Mason Galloway brought Proctor home to make it 5-1.
The key play was Proctor’s triple, which flipped the momentum entirely. Portland never recovered. Oregon State added a run in the fourth inning when Austin Haight singled through the left side, driving in Trent Inge, who had doubled. The Beavers stretched their lead to 6-1.
Portland’s pitching staff cycled through four pitchers – Gaston, Kevin Starr, Nick Umlandt and Adam Louis – but could not contain the Beavers’ lineup. Oregon State tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning, both unearned, after a Portland error at third base allowed a runner to reach. Haight doubled to the outfield, scoring two runs and making it 8-1.
The Pilots’ best moment came in the eighth inning. With two outs and a runner on first, KatayamaStall homered to right field, cutting the deficit to 8-3. But Portland could not sustain any further rally. In the ninth, they put the tying run at the plate only to have Leo Cote ground into a double play to end the game.
KatayamaStall finished 1 for 4 with the home run and two RBIs. Swygart went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. Brady Bean, Joseph Fagan, Brooks Avery, Nolan Miller, Gage Bruce and Dakota Chun all went hitless for Portland. For Oregon State, Haight had two doubles and three RBIs, while Proctor drove in three runs with his triple.
The game marked the second meeting between the two teams in May, after Oregon State defeated Portland 6-4 in 12 innings on May 5. The Beavers also beat Portland 1-3 on March 17 in a low-scoring affair. Oregon State’s victory extended its winning streak to seven games, while Portland lost its fourth consecutive contest.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Oregon State 7, Portland 3. Interstat’s ELO system gave Oregon State an 83.80 percent probability to win, and the Beavers were installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus 3.5.
