Campbell vs. Bradley
SHELBY, N.C. (Interstat) — The Bradley Braves pulled off a resounding 14-3 victory Saturday, snapping a lengthy skid and stunning the Campbell Fightin Camels. The teams close their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Keeter Stadium, with first pitch set under cloudy skies and a temperature near 67 degrees.
Bradley (10-42) rode a 16-hit outburst and a strong start from Robert Sanford to halt a run of lopsided losses. Sanford worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing no hits but five earned runs, while striking out five. First baseman Angelo Aleman added a home run and three RBIs.
The Braves will send Sanford back to the mound Sunday after his 104-pitch outing Saturday. The right-hander has struggled for consistency, posting a 5.40 ERA over his last three starts, but he fired five scoreless innings against Illinois State on April 25.
Campbell (35-15) counters with ace David Rossow, who has been dominant in recent weeks. The right-hander struck out 12 over seven innings of one-run ball against Elon on April 18, then punched out eight over 5 2/3 scoreless frames against North Carolina A&T on May 2. In his last start, a Saturday win at Gardner-Webb, Rossow logged five innings, scattering no hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts.
The Fightin Camels entered the series as heavy favorites, riding a 10-game winning streak before Saturday’s setback. Campbell’s offense, which averaged nearly nine runs per game during that stretch, was held to three runs on six hits by Bradley’s bullpen after Sanford departed.
Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-3 Campbell victory, and the firm’s ELO system gives the Fightin Camels an 85.10 percent probability to win.
Both teams face challenging stretches after Sunday. Campbell visits East Carolina on Tuesday before a three-game set at UNC Wilmington beginning Thursday. Bradley returns home to host Illinois-Chicago in a three-game series starting Thursday.
