RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — Isaiah Hernandez drove in two runs on a 2-for-4 day, including a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh, as UC Riverside defeated UC Irvine 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Riverside Sports Complex. The Highlanders improved to 15-31, 23-24 for the Anteaters.

Both teams collected nine hits. UC Irvine grounded into two double plays.

UC Riverside took a 1-0 lead in the third on Hernandez’s single. The Anteaters answered with three runs in the sixth, capped by Zach Crandall’s two-run double and a wild pitch that scored Crandall. The Highlanders tied it in the fourth on Esteban Sepulveda’s sacrifice fly and David Whittle’s RBI single, then went ahead in the sixth on Tyler Gordon’s RBI triple. Hernandez added insurance in the seventh.

Hunter Manning (2.2 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 2 K) started for UC Irvine. Joshua Martinez (5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 K) earned the win. Marco DiGirolamo (1.1 IP, 0 H) got the save.

The victory broke a two-game skid for UC Riverside after the Anteaters won 15-3 and 17-5 on Friday and Saturday.
