LSU 8, at Georgia 13

Saturday, May 9, 2026 · Final · SEC Playoffs Game 2 (UGA leads 2-0)

LSU at Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — The Georgia Bulldogs host LSU on Saturday afternoon at Athens Olympic Indoor Hall in a Southeastern Conference series rubber match. First pitch is set for early afternoon with a forecast of 67 degrees and cloudy skies.

Georgia (39-11) holds a commanding record and already took the series opener 11-8 on Friday. LSU (29-22) looks to even the series before Sunday’s finale. Both teams will meet again Sunday before turning to midweek conference series (Interstat) — LSU hosts Florida on May 14, while Georgia travels to Auburn on the same date.

The Bulldogs have been powered by second baseman Tre Phelps, who went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in Friday’s win. Over his last five games, Phelps has three homers and eight RBIs, including multi-hit performances in four of those contests. His .350-plus average and power stroke have made him Georgia’s most consistent offensive threat.

LSU will counter with right-hander William Schmidt, who struggled in Friday’s outing, allowing four earned runs in four innings despite not allowing a hit. Schmidt has been erratic this season: he threw six innings of one-run ball in a win over South Carolina on May 2, but has allowed seven earned runs in two of his previous four starts. His command will be critical against a Georgia lineup that has scored 11 or more runs in three of its last four games.

The teams have split recent head-to-head meetings, with LSU dropping the Friday contest after entering with momentum from a 13-6 win over Tulane on May 5. Georgia, meanwhile, swept Missouri over the weekend and has won 10 of its last 12.

Computer projections favor the Bulldogs. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 7-6 Georgia victory, and its ELO system gives the Bulldogs a 51.60 percent chance to win.

LSU catcher Cade Arrambide and third baseman John Pearson each homered Friday and will be key to generating offense against Georgia’s pitching staff, which held Missouri to three runs over a three-game sweep last weekend.

Saturday’s game marks the second of a three-game set. The series concludes Sunday.
