Tulane at LSU
BATON ROUGE (Interstat) — LSU scored six runs in the first inning and never trailed, rolling past Tulane 13-6 on Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field.
The Tigers struck immediately after a scoreless top of the first. LSU sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run homer from Steven Arrambide and a series of extra-base hits. Arrambide’s blast to center field scored Braun, who had walked and advanced on a wild pitch. After a walk to Curiel, LSU strung together three straight run-scoring hits: Milam doubled down the right-field line to drive in Curiel, Pearson doubled to right center to score Milam, and Dardar singled through the left side to plate Pearson. Ruckert flied out, but Dardar stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Elliott, then scored on a groundout by Patrick. By the time Reaves flied out to center, LSU had tied the game at 6-6 after Tulane’s first-inning — the Green Wave had been kept off the board despite a single from Jason Wachs.
The Tigers added to their lead in the second inning. Milam doubled again, this time scoring Arrambide and Curiel, and Dardar singled through the right side to bring home Milam. After two innings, LSU led 9-0.
Tulane’s offense began to find traction in the third. Chun singled and later scored on a double by Wachs, cutting the deficit to 9-1. In the fourth, Agabedis scored on a double by Elliott, and Harrison doubled to bring in Elliott, making it 9-3. The Green Wave drew closer in the fifth when Wachs crushed a two-run homer to right field, scoring Wood, who had walked. LSU answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Braun doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Milam, extending the lead to 10-5.
The teams traded runs in the middle innings. Tulane’s Jack Johnson hit a solo homer in the eighth, but LSU had already put the game away. In the sixth, Dardar doubled and scored on a groundout by Patrick. In the seventh, Curiel singled and Pearson homered to left field, pushing the lead to 13-5.
Wachs finished 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs for Tulane. Elliott went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Nate Johnson homered. For LSU, Arrambide had two hits and two RBIs, Milam doubled twice and drove in four runs, and Pearson homered and doubled, knocking in three. Tulane outhit LSU 10 to 16 but left runners on base in scoring position. The Green Wave used seven pitchers, while LSU employed five.
Tulane dropped to 23 wins and 27 losses, while LSU improved to 29 and 21. The Green Wave had lost three straight entering the game, all at Charlotte. LSU had won its previous series against South Carolina.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of LSU 5, Tulane 3. Interstat’s ELO system gave LSU an 80.70 percent probability to win.
