Tulane at LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) – LSU looks to build momentum against in-state rival Tulane on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field. The Tigers (28-21) enter the contest on a three-game winning streak, while the Green Wave (23-26) come in having dropped four of their last five.
The weather forecast calls for clear skies and 70 degrees at game time.
A key figure in LSU’s recent surge has been pitcher Zac Cowan, who tossed six shutout innings in a 7-0 victory over South Carolina on Sunday, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Cowan has been sharp in his last two outings, combining for 10 scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts. On the season, he has shown flashes of dominance, though his last loss came April 24 at Mississippi State.
Tulane counters with a standout of its own in reliever Sam Larson. In his last appearance Sunday at Charlotte, Larson worked three innings of hitless relief, allowing one earned run while striking out seven. He has been reliable out of the bullpen, surrendering just two earned runs over his last 8 1/3 innings across five appearances, with 10 strikeouts.
The Green Wave are coming off a weekend sweep at the hands of Charlotte, where they were outscored 24-5. Their most recent win came April 28 against Southern Mississippi.
LSU, meanwhile, completed a three-game sweep of South Carolina over the weekend, outscoring the Gamecocks 20-4. The Tigers have won five of their last six.
The Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 LSU victory.
Following Tuesday’s matchup, LSU travels to Georgia for a three-game series starting Friday, while Tulane returns home to host South Florida for a three-game set.
