Arizona State at UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (Interstat) — Arizona State travels to face UCF on Saturday at Jay Bergman Field in a pivotal Big 12 series, with the Sun Devils seeking a second straight win after a 9-4 victory on Friday.
The Sun Devils (32-14) hold a one-game lead in the series and are projected by Interstat’s game simulator to win 8-6. However, Interstat’s ELO system gives UCF (26-16) a narrow 50.10 percent probability of victory.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 88 degrees.
Arizona State right-hander Kole Klecker is a key figure. The junior has posted quality starts in three of his last four outings. On April 26 against Baylor, he worked 6.0 innings, allowing two earned runs with four hits and eight strikeouts in an 11-4 win. He also threw 7.0 innings on April 12 against Utah, surrendering one earned run with four hits and four strikeouts in a 5-2 victory. His lone rough stretch came April 18 at BYU, where he gave up six earned runs in just 2.0 innings, though Arizona State won 12-8.
For UCF, catcher Zak Skinner enters the game on a hot streak. In his last four games, he has gone a combined 12-for-18 with one home run and eight RBIs. He went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in a 12-4 win at Utah on April 25, and followed that with a 3-for-5, three-RBI performance April 29 against Stetson in a 6-5 victory. Skinner had a brief slump earlier in April, hitting 1-for-12 over a four-game stretch from April 11-18, but has rebounded strongly.
The Sun Devils took the series opener Friday behind a balanced attack. Arizona State has won five of its last six games overall, including a three-game sweep of Baylor (April 24-26) and a 12-8 win at BYU on April 18.
UCF, meanwhile, had won five straight before Friday’s loss, including a three-game sweep at Utah from April 24-26 where the Knights outscored the Utes 34-6.
The two teams close the series Sunday. Arizona State then travels to Missouri on Tuesday, while UCF hosts Florida Atlantic on the same day.
