Manhattan at Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H. (Interstat) — Manhattan visits Dartmouth on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 54 degrees.
The Jaspers (15-23) enter the contest having lost four of their last five, including an 8-5 defeat to Canisius on April 26. Dartmouth (12-22) comes off a 4-3 win over Merrimack on April 29, snapping a two-game skid.
A player to watch for Manhattan is right-hander Joseph Duffield. Over his past three outings, Duffield has a 3.65 ERA across 12.1 innings, striking out seven. He threw 4.2 innings in the loss to Canisius, allowing two earned runs on four hits. In his prior start against Rider, he worked 4.2 hitless frames but was charged with two runs. Duffield also tossed three scoreless innings against Siena on April 12.
For Dartmouth, left-hander Trey Sejnoha has been effective in recent relief appearances. Sejnoha earned the win against Merrimack with five innings of four-hit, shutout ball and six strikeouts. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 10 innings across three appearances, striking out 14. However, he was tagged for six runs on seven hits against Brown on April 11.
Manhattan’s offense was led in its last game by Justin Best, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Garrett Theile also threw three scoreless innings of relief.
Dartmouth’s most productive player in its win over Merrimack was Sejnoha on the mound and Chris Miller, who drove in a run with a 1-for-3 day. Andrew Lombana added four innings of three-run ball.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Dartmouth victory.
The Jaspers and Big Green will meet again Sunday to complete the series before Manhattan travels to NJIT on Tuesday. Dartmouth opens a three-game set at Yale on May 9.
