Indiana at Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — Louisville looks to extend its winning ways against struggling Indiana at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium, where rain is in the forecast with temperatures near 73 degrees.
The Cardinals (26-18) enter on a hot streak, having swept Clemson over the weekend, capped by a 7-5, 10-inning victory Sunday. Designated hitter/catcher Jimmy Nugent has been the catalyst, going 3 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs in that win. Over his last four games, Nugent is batting .500 (8 for 16) with three homers and eight RBIs.
Indiana (19-25) arrives having lost three straight, all at home to Iowa, including a 7-4 defeat Sunday. The Hoosiers were outscored 28-8 in the series.
A bright spot for Indiana is right-hander Gavin Seebold, who tossed five scoreless innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts Sunday. Over his last three relief appearances, Seebold has allowed no earned runs in 8 2/3 innings, striking out 11.
The Hoosiers will need that kind of production to quiet a Louisville offense that has scored at least seven runs in six of its last seven games.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Louisville victory.
Indiana begins a three-game series at Northwestern on Friday. Louisville travels to Wake Forest for a three-game set starting Thursday.
