Cornell at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — Brown hosts Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Murray Stadium in an Ivy League matchup between two teams heading in opposite directions. The Bears (19-14) swept a doubleheader from the Big Red (8-24) on Saturday by scores of 16-4 and 4-0, and enter the series finale as heavy favorites.

The forecast calls for clouds and 54 degrees at first pitch. Brown’s ELO probability to win stands at 58.3 percent, with Interstat’s simulator projecting a 7-3 final.

Brown third baseman DJ Dillehay has been the catalyst. In Saturday’s first game, he went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Over his last nine games, Dillehay has collected hits in seven of them, including a 3-for-6 performance with three RBIs in a road win at Dartmouth on April 11. He also homered and drove in three in a 6-1 victory over Columbia on April 18.

Cornell will look to right-hander Alex Stoyer, who tossed a scoreless inning in relief Saturday, allowing no hits. Stoyer has appeared in three of Cornell’s last four games, surrendering only one earned run over three innings in that span. However, he was charged with an earned run in one-third of an inning against Binghamton on April 14.

The Big Red have lost 12 of their last 13 games, with the lone win a 10-6 decision at Binghamton on April 21. Cornell’s offense has struggled, scoring three or fewer runs in eight of those 13 contests. In Saturday’s twin bill, the Big Red managed just four hits in the first game and were blanked on three hits in the nightcap.

Brown, meanwhile, has won five of its last seven, including a 6-3 victory at Harvard on Tuesday. The Bears’ pitching has been solid, holding opponents to three runs or fewer in four of their last six outings. Brown relishes playing at home; the Bears are 8-3 at Murray Stadium this season.

The all-time series has been one-sided in Brown’s favor lately. The Bears have won the last four meetings dating to the 2025 season. Cornell’s last win in the series came on April 26, 2025, a 7-5 decision in Providence.

Following Sunday’s game, Cornell travels to Bucknell on Tuesday before hosting Columbia for a three-game set May 2-3. Brown has a split doubleheader Wednesday, hosting Columbia and visiting Rhode Island, then travels to Penn for a three-game series starting May 1.
