But Canisius added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Andrew Marcello tripled and scored on a two-out error by Manhattan left fielder, making it 8-5.
Canisius used a committee of pitchers to hold the Jaspers at bay. Starter Mark Rogers worked a scoreless first, then Noah Albano entered in the second and threw 4⅔ shutout innings, allowing no hits and striking out three. Felix Morin pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save. For Manhattan, reliever Joseph Duffield allowed two earned runs over 4⅔ innings, and Garrett Theile tossed three scoreless frames.
Both teams finished with 11 hits. For Canisius, Brown, Spinosa and Cox each had two hits. Manhattan’s Samuel went 3-for-5 with two doubles, and Basehore and Best each homered.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for Canisius, which had dropped six of its previous seven contests. Manhattan had lost two straight entering the game. The Golden Griffins head on the road to face Iona for a three-game series starting May 1. Manhattan travels for a midweek game at Navy on April 29 before a weekend series at Dartmouth.
