College Baseball Preview: UNCW at Elon

ELON, N.C. (Interstat) — The UNC Wilmington Seahawks visit the Elon Phoenix on Friday at 6 p.m. at Walter C. Latham Park in a Colonial Athletic Association series opener.

UNC Wilmington (21-17) enters the game following a 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina on Tuesday. The Seahawks have won three of their past five games. Elon (17-23) beat Winthrop 10-8 on Tuesday for its third win in four games.

The weather forecast calls for 80 degrees and cloudy skies.

UNC Wilmington pitcher TJ Ziermann is a player to watch. The right-hander threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts in Tuesday’s win, lowering his ERA. He has struggled with command in some appearances this season, including allowing five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning in a loss to East Carolina on March 31.

Elon first baseman Jared Hall is batting .316 in his past 10 games. He hit a home run and drove in two runs Tuesday against Winthrop. Hall also homered in a win at Campbell on April 19.

The Seahawks swept a three-game series from Elon earlier this season, winning 8-7 in 16 innings on March 13, 8-0 on March 14 and 11-0 on March 15.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 UNC Wilmington win.
