Rain-Soaked Rivalry Set for Corvallis as Beavers Host Ducks

CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — A wet and consequential Big Ten Conference matchup is on tap Wednesday as the Oregon State Beavers host the Oregon Ducks at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Forecasted rain and temperatures near 57 degrees will greet the in-state rivals, who meet for the second time this season. Oregon State (30-8) won the previous meeting 10-6 in Eugene on March 3.

The Beavers enter with the hotter hand, having won 10 of their last 12 games, including a series victory over Cal State Fullerton. They outscored opponents 32-5 over their last three games.

Oregon (28-11) took two of three at Illinois over the weekend but has been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in its last six contests.

A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top offensive performers. Oregon second baseman Ryan Cooney is riding a wave of momentum, coming off a 3-for-5, two-homer, three-RBI performance in Sunday’s 11-5 win at Illinois. Over his last 10 games, Cooney is batting .429 (15-for-35) with three home runs and 11 RBIs.

He will be countered by Oregon State’s powerful second baseman, AJ Singer. Singer drove in seven runs during the Fullerton series, including a 3-for-5, three-RBI game Sunday. He has recorded at least one RBI in eight of his last 10 games, tallying 17 RBIs in that span.

On the mound, both teams will look to navigate the elements. Oregon’s Miles Gosztola provided strong relief with 4 1/3 scoreless innings Sunday and could be a key factor. Oregon State’s Eric Segura delivered a quality start last time out, and the Beavers’ bullpen, highlighted by Isaac Yeager, has been reliable.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Oregon State is projected to win 7-5.

The game continues a critical stretch for both teams. Following Wednesday’s contest, Oregon will host Penn State for a three-game series, while Oregon State prepares to welcome Hawaii.
