Texas-Rio Grande Valley at Arkansas-Little Rock
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Interstat) — The Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans look to build on their winning record and secure a series sweep when they host the Texas-Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros in a non-conference matchup Wednesday at Mims Gym.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature near 77 degrees.
The Trojans (23-17) took the first game of the two-game set Tuesday, shutting out the Vaqueros. They enter with momentum from a series win over Eastern Illinois, including an 11-1 victory Sunday. UALR’s bullpen has been a strength, with reliever Gage Haley emerging as a key arm. Over his last six appearances, Haley has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings, striking out 11. In his last outing, a 7-6 win over Eastern Illinois on April 17, he threw three hitless innings with four strikeouts.
The Vaqueros (17-21) aim to rebound after Tuesday’s loss and a recent stretch where they have lost seven of their last ten games. They are coming off a split of a four-game series with Southeastern Louisiana, which included a 10-1 win on April 18. A player to watch for UTRGV is reliever Robert Bonilla, who has shown swing-and-miss ability with nine strikeouts over his last 11 innings, though he has been inconsistent with his command at times.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Arkansas-Little Rock 5, Texas-Rio Grande Valley 3.
Following Wednesday’s contest, both teams hit the road for weekend series. The Trojans travel to face Lindenwood (MO) in a three-game set starting Friday, while the Vaqueros open a series at McNeese State on Friday.
