Louisiana Tech at McNeese State
LAKE CHARLES, La. (Interstat) — The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, riding a wave of strong pitching, visit the McNeese State Cowboys in a midweek non-conference matchup Tuesday at Sudduth Coliseum.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature near 72 degrees.
Louisiana Tech (24-17) enters having won three of its last four, including a 4-3 victory at Kennesaw State on Sunday. The Bulldogs’ pitching staff has been a strength, and reliever Landon Fontenot has been a key weapon. Over his last six appearances, the right-hander has allowed just two earned runs in 17 2/3 innings, striking out 18. He was dominant Sunday, throwing five hitless, scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to secure the win.
McNeese State (19-19), which dropped two of three at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the weekend, will look to its offense to find consistency. Outfielder Isaiah Keller has been a bright spot, collecting six hits in his last 13 at-bats. He homered and drove in a run in Sunday’s 9-5 loss.
The Cowboys won the most recent meeting between the in-state programs, an 8-3 victory in Ruston on Feb. 18.
Louisiana Tech has been strong on the road lately, winning series at Florida International and Kennesaw State in April. McNeese State is 11-9 at home this season.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Louisiana Tech is projected to win 8-5.
Following Tuesday’s contest, Louisiana Tech returns home to host Missouri State in a three-game series starting Friday. McNeese State remains at home to begin a Southland Conference series against Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Friday.
