UAB at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — The Alabama Crimson Tide will look to complete a season sweep of in-state foe UAB when the teams meet Tuesday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The Crimson Tide (28-13) earned a 12-6 road victory over the Blazers (25-15) just last week on April 14. Alabama enters having taken the final game of a series at then-Texas, a 2-1 win on Sunday. UAB arrives after dropping a 1-0 pitcher’s duel at South Florida the same day.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature near 74 degrees.

A key matchup will feature two of the state’s top pitchers in recent form. Alabama is expected to start right-hander Myles Upchurch, who has been dominant in relief. Upchurch tossed 5 1/3 hitless innings with four strikeouts to earn the win at Texas on Sunday. Over his last four appearances spanning 18 2/3 innings, he has allowed just four hits and two earned runs.

UAB will counter with right-hander Justin Hicks, who is also coming off a brilliant outing. Hicks threw 5 1/3 hitless, scoreless innings in relief against South Florida on Sunday. His recent outings have been a mix of starts and relief, showing both length and effectiveness.

Despite UAB’s strong pitching, national projections are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a narrow 5-4 victory for the Blazers. However, the same service’s ELO rating system gives Alabama a 78.8% probability to win.

The game marks the final non-conference tune-up for both teams before pivotal weekend series. Alabama opens a three-game set at Tennessee on Thursday. UAB begins a home series against American Athletic Conference rival Memphis on Friday.
