Late Home Run Lifts Eastern Michigan Past Western Michigan in MAC Opener

YPSILANTI, Mich. (Interstat) — Tristan Crane’s three-run homer in the sixth inning Friday evening propelled the Eastern Michigan Eagles to a 4-3 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos in a Mid-American Conference opener at Oestrike Stadium.

The Eagles, who improved to 11-24, overcame a 3-1 deficit when Crane connected off reliever Evan Shapiro. Starter John Carmichael earned the win for Eastern Michigan, allowing two earned runs over six innings with seven strikeouts.

Western Michigan took an early lead on Cooper Hums’ two-run homer in the fifth. The Broncos, now 17-15, managed only five hits. Zach Vriesenga took the loss despite a six-inning start where he allowed just four hits, but all four Eastern Michigan runs.
