Alcorn State at Stephen F. Austin
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, riding a wave of momentum, will look to capitalize on a favorable matchup when they host the struggling Alcorn State Braves in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening at Jaycees Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature near 70 degrees.
The Lumberjacks (20-16) enter fresh off a 13-7 road victory at Prairie View A&M on Tuesday, showcasing an offense that has produced 28 runs in its last three wins. Stephen F. Austin has won five of its last seven games overall.
They face an Alcorn State team mired in a difficult season. The Braves (3-28) have lost 10 of their last 11 games, including an 18-5 defeat at Texas Southern on Sunday. Alcorn State’s pitching staff has been taxed, allowing 10 or more runs in 18 games this season.
A bright spot for the Braves has been first baseman Cooper Harris. He homered and drove in two runs in Sunday’s loss, and has four RBIs in his last five games. Containing Harris will be a key focus for the Lumberjacks’ pitching staff.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-1 victory for Stephen F. Austin, a reflection of the stark contrast in the teams’ seasonal trajectories. The Lumberjacks have a .556 winning percentage in mid-April, while the Braves have managed just a .097 win rate.
Following this midweek contest, both teams dive back into conference play this weekend. Stephen F. Austin will host Nicholls State in a Southland Conference series starting Friday. Alcorn State returns home to Lorman, Mississippi, to open a Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Southern on Friday.
