Merrimack at Rhode Island
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (Interstat) — The Rhode Island Rams will look to build on an extra-inning victory and continue their recent home success when they host the Merrimack Warriors in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 75 degrees.
The Rams (15-19) enter riding high after a 10-9 road win at Bryant on Tuesday, powered by a standout performance from first baseman Ryan Thompson. Thompson went 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in that contest, extending his run as Rhode Island’s most consistent hitter. Over his last 10 games, Thompson is batting .350 (14 for 40) with two homers and eight RBIs.
Merrimack (13-19) arrives seeking to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 10-4 loss to Maine on Sunday. A bright spot in that defeat was reliever Henry Hebert, who pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Hebert, a player to watch for the Warriors, has allowed just two earned runs over his last four innings of work, though his outings have been brief.
The Warriors’ recent struggles have been defined by pitching, surrendering 10 or more runs in four of their last six games. They will need to contain a Rhode Island lineup that has averaged 6.4 runs per game during its current 5-2 stretch at home.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 victory for Rhode Island.
Following Wednesday’s contest, Merrimack begins a Northeast Conference series at Sacred Heart on Friday. Rhode Island opens Atlantic 10 Conference play at Saint Bonaventure on Friday.
