Florida A&M at North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — Carter White drove in six runs, including a go-ahead two-run single and a solo home run, to power the North Florida Ospreys to an 11-2 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.

The game’s decisive shift came in the bottom of the third inning, erasing Florida A&M’s early lead and setting the tone for a dominant Ospreys performance. The Rattlers had struck quickly in the first inning against North Florida starter Clay Hendry. Waldyan Brown singled and Caden Kresak followed with a two-run homer to left field, staking Florida A&M to a 2-0 advantage.

That lead held until the Ospreys’ half of the third. Reliever Tanner Walker, who had pitched a scoreless second, issued a leadoff walk to D. Buchanan and, after a groundout, another walk to M. Farner. A groundout and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two outs for White. The center fielder, who had been in a minor slump, delivered a sharp single to center, scoring Buchanan and Farner to tie the game 2-2.

White’s hit sparked an offense that would not relent. Buchanan gave North Florida its first lead an inning later with a solo homer to left center, making it 3-2. The Ospreys then broke the game open with a three-run fifth, highlighted by an RBI double from J. Toberman and a run-scoring groundout from B. Rurey. White contributed again with an RBI fielder’s choice.

The Ospreys’ bullpen quartet of Joseph Dimino, Kai Etwaru, Jeremiah Stewart and Clark Lincoln was flawless, combining for 8 1/3 innings of relief. After Hendry allowed two runs on four hits over 2 2/3 innings, Dimino, Etwaru and Stewart held the Rattlers to just two hits over the final 6 1/3 frames, striking out seven. Stewart was particularly overpowering in the eighth, striking out the side.

North Florida continued to add on. White launched a solo shot to center in the seventh to make it 8-2. He then capped his afternoon in the eighth with another two-run single, part of a three-run inning that put the game out of reach. White finished 3 for 5.

Florida A&M’s offense, which produced six hits, was silenced after the first. Jackson McKenzie had two doubles for the Rattlers, but the team managed only two other hits after the third inning and squandered a bases-loaded, one-out opportunity in the sixth when a grounder resulted in a pitcher-to-catcher-to-first double play.

With the win, North Florida improved to 21-15 overall, while Florida A&M fell to .500 at 17-17. The victory extended the Ospreys’ success over the Rattlers this season, following a 15-4 win in February.

North Florida next hosts Stetson in a conference series starting Friday. Florida A&M returns home to begin a series against Mississippi Valley State on Friday.
