Florida A&M at North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Florida A&M lineup, fresh off a 23-run outburst, will face a North Florida team looking to rebound from a weekend loss when the in-state foes meet in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at John Sessions Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday evening under cloudy skies with temperatures near 80 degrees.

The Rattlers (17-16) arrive riding high after taking three of four at Jackson State, capped by a 23-8 rout Sunday. Their offense has been potent, scoring eight or more runs in seven of their last 10 games.

A major catalyst has been two-way standout Jay Campbell. The infielder and pitcher is on a tear, hitting .429 (15-for-35) with three home runs and 17 RBIs over his last nine games. In Sunday’s win, he went 3 for 6 with a homer and six RBIs. He also contributed a scoreless inning of relief in a Saturday victory.

North Florida (20-15) dropped its series finale at West Georgia 7-2 on Sunday but had won the first two games of that set. The Ospreys’ pitching will be tested by the hot FAMU bats.

A key arm for UNF is Trevor Nikolis, who turned in a strong long-relief appearance Sunday, throwing 3 1/3 hitless innings with four strikeouts after entering in the first. His season has been up-and-down, but he delivered six scoreless innings in a win at Jacksonville on March 28.

The most recent meeting between the teams heavily favors the Ospreys. On Feb. 18 in Tallahassee, North Florida dominated Florida A&M 15-4.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, another high-scoring affair is projected, with a narrow 8-7 victory for the visiting Rattlers.

Following this midweek clash, both teams dive back into conference play. Florida A&M hosts Mississippi Valley State for a three-game series starting Friday. North Florida opens a key ASUN series at home against Stetson on Friday.
