Manhattan at Stony Brook

Preview: Manhattan Jaspers at Stony Brook Seawolves

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build on weekend series wins meet Tuesday when the Manhattan Jaspers visit the Stony Brook Seawolves in non-conference baseball action at Joe Nathan Field.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening under cloudy skies with temperatures near 66 degrees.

The Jaspers (13-17) arrive after taking two of three from Siena, including a 16-2 rout Sunday. Manhattan’s offense has shown potency, scoring eight or more runs in four of its last six victories.

A key catalyst is catcher Hunter Sute, who is 12 for 30 (.400) with two home runs and 12 RBIs over his last eight games. He went 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs in Sunday’s win.

The Seawolves (11-21) also won their weekend series, capturing two of three at Hofstra. They prevailed 12-11 in 10 innings on Sunday, powered by a late rally. Catcher Scott Gell delivered a key grand slam in that victory, part of a two-hit, four-RBI day. He has driven in nine runs over his last five games.

Both pitching staffs will be tested. Manhattan has a team ERA of 6.82, while Stony Brook’s staff carries a 7.02 ERA. The teams have split their last six meetings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Manhattan 5, Stony Brook 4.

The Jaspers begin a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at Rider on Friday. The Seawolves open a Coastal Athletic Association set at home against Monmouth on Friday.
