South Alabama at Georgia Southern
SOUTH ALABAMA, GEORGIA SOUTHERN OPEN SUN BELT SERIES
STATESBORO, Ga. (Interstat) — The South Alabama Jaguars visit the Georgia Southern Eagles on Friday to open a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at J.I. Clements Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 73 degrees.
South Alabama (19-14) enters with a winning record but is looking to rebound after a 5-7 midweek loss at Alabama State on Wednesday. The Jaguars took one of three games at Coastal Carolina last weekend.
Georgia Southern (11-21) seeks to halt a skid after being outscored 28-10 in a three-game series at Texas State last weekend, including a 15-5, eight-inning loss on Friday.
A key matchup will feature South Alabama right-hander Hayden O’Dell, a player to watch, against a Georgia Southern lineup anchored by shortstop Frank Wells.
O’Dell has been a bright spot despite recent tough-luck losses. In his last start on April 8, he threw six no-hit innings with one earned run and five strikeouts in a relief appearance against Alabama State. Over his last four appearances, spanning 19 2/3 innings, he has allowed 11 hits and 10 earned runs.
Wells provides power for the Eagles. He homered and drove in two runs in Friday’s loss at Texas State. In his last 10 games, he is 7-for-32 (.219) with one home run and six RBIs.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Georgia Southern 6, South Alabama 4.
The series continues Saturday at 2 p.m. and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
