Bulldogs Blast Huskies Early, Cruise to Victory Behind Dominant Pitching

SEATTLE (Interstat) — Gonzaga erupted for nine runs in the first inning and its pitching staff combined for a one-hitter in a 9-2 rout of Washington on Monday at Husky Ballpark.

Maddox Haley’s three-run homer highlighted the Bulldogs’ explosive opening frame. Hudson Shupe and Noah Meffert also homered for Gonzaga, which finished with 10 hits.

Bulldogs starter Finbar O’Brien earned the win, allowing one unearned run over five hitless innings with five strikeouts. Relievers Joseph Thornton and Landon Hood each threw two hitless innings.

Washington’s only hit was a fourth-inning RBI double by Tyler Cowan. The Huskies fell to 14-17, while Gonzaga improved to 16-14. The teams meet again Tuesday.
