Preview: Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Indiana Hoosiers
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Interstat) — The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will look to salvage the finale of their three-game Big Ten series against the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. EDT.
Forecasts call for rainy conditions and a temperature near 66 degrees.
The Hoosiers (11-18, 1-1 Big Ten) dominated the series opener, run-ruleing the Scarlet Knights 11-0 in seven innings on Friday behind a stellar start from right-hander Tony Neubeck, who allowed just three hits and struck out eight over six scoreless innings. Indiana took Saturday’s contest 5-3.
Rutgers (15-14, 1-4) will seek to avoid the sweep and snap a three-game skid. A bright spot in Friday’s loss was reliever Zach Gleason, who struck out the side in a perfect inning of work. Gleason has been effective lately, posting five scoreless appearances in his last seven outings.
Neubeck is a player to watch for Indiana after his commanding performance against this same Rutgers lineup just two days prior.
Despite the recent results, Interstat’s game simulator projects a close contest, favoring Rutgers 5-4.
The Scarlet Knights continue their road trip with a midweek game at Seton Hall on Tuesday before hosting UCLA next weekend. Indiana hosts Ball State on Tuesday before a Big Ten road series at Maryland.
