LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — The Nebraska Cornhuskers will look to complete a series sweep of the Penn State Nittany Lions in a Big Ten Conference matchup Sunday afternoon at Haymarket Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 43 degrees.
Nebraska (25-6, 3-2 Big Ten) has dominated the series opener, winning 13-1 and 8-7 on Saturday. The Cornhuskers, among the nation’s leaders in wins, have been formidable at home.
Penn State (8-20, 1-4) seeks to salvage the final game of the series after a heartbreaking one-run loss Saturday. The Nittany Lions have struggled to find consistency this season.
A player to watch for Penn State is Michael Anderson. The infielder is riding a six-game hitting streak, going 11 for 26 (.423) with three home runs and nine RBIs in that span. He drove in two runs in Saturday’s narrow defeat.
For Nebraska, reliever Tucker Timmerman has been nearly untouchable. The right-hander has not allowed an earned run in his last six appearances, spanning 10 1/3 innings. He pitched four scoreless innings of relief in Saturday’s win, allowing just one hit.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 victory for Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers begin a tough road stretch next weekend with a series at Oregon. Penn State returns home to host Fairleigh Dickinson and Rider in a doubleheader Tuesday before a Big Ten series at Ohio State.
