Charlotte at East Carolina
GREENVILLE, N.C. (Interstat) — A key American Athletic Conference series opens Friday evening when the Charlotte 49ers visit the East Carolina Pirates at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 84 degrees.
The 49ers (18-10, 3-3 AAC) enter with a slight edge in the standings over the Pirates (17-12, 2-4 AAC). Charlotte is coming off a series win over South Florida, capped by a 10-3 victory last Sunday. East Carolina dropped two of three at Texas-San Antonio last weekend but rebounded with a 14-8 midweek win over UNC Wilmington on Tuesday.
A player to watch for Charlotte is right-hander Adam Stanton. The pitcher is coming off a dominant performance, tossing eight scoreless innings with four strikeouts in Sunday’s win over South Florida. Over his last four appearances, he has allowed just one earned run in 13 innings.
East Carolina’s offense is powered by center fielder Grayden Lenahan. He drove in five runs, including a home run, in Tuesday’s victory. In his last six games, Lenahan has four home runs and 14 RBIs.
The teams opened their three-game set Thursday, with East Carolina winning 8-0.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Friday’s contest projects to be a high-scoring affair, with a predicted final of Charlotte 7, East Carolina 6.
Following Friday’s game, the series continues Saturday afternoon before Charlotte travels to face North Carolina next Tuesday. East Carolina hosts Duke on Tuesday before hitting the road for a conference series at Tulane next weekend.
