Rain Threatens Atlantic 10 Opener Between Dayton, Fordham
DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Atlantic 10 Conference baseball schedule opens Friday with a series between the Dayton Flyers and Fordham Rams at Woerner Field, though wet weather could impact the contest.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, but the forecast calls for rain and a temperature of 79 degrees.
Dayton (15-12) enters with a slightly better overall record than Fordham (13-14). The Flyers are coming off a tough 12-inning, 9-8 loss at Davidson on Sunday. In that game, catcher Ryan MacDougall powered the offense, going 2 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs. MacDougall has shown pop recently, with three homers in his last five games.
Fordham arrives after a 9-8 victory over Columbia on Tuesday. Right fielder Joey Donnelly was key in the win, hitting a three-run homer as part of a 3-for-4 day. Donnelly is 7 for 19 (.368) with two home runs and seven RBIs over his last six games.
The series marks the start of A-10 play for both teams. Projections are split on the outcome. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 7-3 Fordham victory, while its ELO rating system gives Dayton a 59.4% probability to win.
The teams are set to continue the three-game series Saturday and Sunday in Dayton.
